No Early Release Wednesdays

The Osceola County School District is planning ahead for the upcoming spring administration of the Florida Standards Assessment by allowing students to have a full day of school on the Wednesdays when the test will be administered. As such, parents should be advised that there will be no early release of students on the following Wednesdays:

April 15, 2015
April 22, 2015
April 29, 2015

Students will be dismissed from school those days as they normally would on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The testing requires extended online assessments. "By lengthening the Wednesdays during testing, it allows more flexibility of the school-wide testing schedule. Schools will now have options to build in more opportunities for breaks between the different testing sessions to allow students to stretch, relax, and refocus," said Superintendent Melba Luciano. "We want to provide every advantage to our students."

New Parent Portal

On September 1, 2014, the Osceola School District started utilizing a new FOCUS Parent Portal, a tool designed to enhance the communication and involvement of parents in their child's education. The Parent Portal replaced the district's Parent Internet Viewer, and allows parents to better monitor their child's progress in school by providing Internet access to grades, attendance, discipline, academic history, graduation verification, and standardized test results in a secure password-protected environment.

With the new Parent Portal, parents have the ability to:
• Send an email to their child's teacher;
• View the school calendar;
• Receive messages from the Osceola School District; and
• Set up alert notifications for attendance, grades, discipline, upcoming assignments, events, and messages.

If you wish to create a Parent Portal Account, you have three options to choose from:

  1. If you do not know your child's Student ID number, you cannot register from home and you will need to visit your child's school and bring with you a valid Florida Driver's License or a government-issued photo ID.
  2. If your child's social security number is on file with the school district and you know your child's Student ID number, you can register from home. By using a valid email address, you can create and activate your account using the attached directions.
  3. If you know your child's Student ID number but your child's SSN is not on file with the district or you are not willing to provide the last four digits of your child's Social Security Number, you will need to visit the school to activate your account.

    Acceleration Plan

    The academic progress of all students, including those students who exceed curriculum benchmarks, remains a high priority for the school district. Per 1002.3105, Florida Statutes, Academically Challenging Curriculum to Enhance Learning (ACCEL), the district provides a plan for acceleration decisions within the district's existing Multi-Tiered System of Supports/Response to Intervention (MTSS/RtI) framework. School level Problem Solving Teams shall review assessment data at the beginning of the school year to determine which students may benefit from acceleration options. High performing students who show the need for additional enrichment and challenging curriculum options are currently placed in the appropriate classroom with differentiated instruction. If you have further questions or would like to inquire about ACCEL options, please contact the school office. Adopted 08/07/12
